DAY 3: Stopping Insanity—How to Break the Cycle
Welcome to Day 3 of Busting Negative Thought Habits—Stopping Insanity—the prerequisite course for our vision book and self-help publishing curriculum. To order the complete mini-course, or other beginning, intermediate or advanced self-publishing resources and tools, go to the Deborah S. Nelson Bookstore. Otherwise, just keep Treading for the free stuff—which is a great place to start.
This 10-day thought-step program is designed to change your habits about how you think about your life. Do you often feel that your efforts go unrewarded? Do you ever feel that people take advantage of your kindness? Plus, do you also feel that no one appreciates you? Do you ever wonder if you are sabotaging your best life?
The Definition of Insanity by Albert Einstein
Albert Einstein said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results! Obviously, if we use that definition—most of us have been acting insanely, including myself! This is one of my favorite quotes because it is so true!
With this thought-step we will identify those things we are doing over and over again that aren’t working! Moreover, this is such a simple brilliant concept, we are often very distracted with chasing results. Therefore, we do not see that we are like rats on a treadmill! Ha! Indeed, I’ve done it, so many times, so I do not exclude myself.
Stopping Insanity–Just Becoming Aware of the Insanity Can Break it
This thought-step will help us to become aware of those things we are repeating and just notice them. Hmmmm. I keep dating the same type, and I am not finding a serious relationship. (Maybe “your type” of date is the same, repeating “unavailable type.”) Or hmmmm … I can never seem to please my boss, no matter what I do, the harder I work, the less I am appreciated. (Maybe I’m too available and he does not completely realize how much I really do).
These are just some examples of repeating patterns hinder our ability to bring our dreams to reality. Let’s just take one minute and find one repeating situation that isn’t bringing results we really want or deserve. This is a mini-series and we only ask that you do one thought-step. Therefore, just pick one idea that feels like insanity, and notice it. Just notice it.

Now that you’ve noticed the one thing in your life that fits Einstein’s definition of insanity, make a promise to yourself to notice it each time it repeats. Also, observe the phenomenon that it seems to have a life of its own.
Indeed, this is an easy mini-series and where we only teach thought-steps. Notably, we do not ask you to change the situation–we only ask that you notice it with your thoughts. Yet, you try to change the situation that also can become a part of the repeating insanity. Therefore, we simply ask that you notice it happening! In addition, these 10 thought-steps prepares you to be successful in our dreams to reality and self help publishing intermediate to advanced curriculum and training.
